The new addition to the Burgage tool shed has been hard at work this summer, the tractor was invaluable in the widening of the paths on the Common during lock down helping our villagers pass in safety when out for their daily exercise.

The Bluebells looked resplendent this month in our newly-cleared woodland.

This stunning piece of driftwood was washed up on Alnmouth beach in April 2020. We couldn’t resist rescuing her from being washed back into the sea. Today, she has been placed on the edge of the Pond in our newly cleared Woodland, for all to enjoy.

Thanks to volunteers from the village, we have been able to spend considerable time this month preparing for the opening of the beach car park, as soon as it’s deemed safe to do so. It’s been a great team effort and a fantastic opportunity to showcase the Alnmouth community spirit.

Work has started on the Common to tidy it up for Spring. Overgrown pathways are being strimmed and overhanging branches trimmed with some of the brash being used for wildlife habitat. Following on from last year – to mark the arrival of Christmas Eve –                the Burgage Holders once again lit the beacon on Bracken Hill, it was nice to see a crowd gathering to watch before heading off to the Crib service at St. Johns.  A perfect start…

  It was an absolute pleasure working in the sunshine on the Common today, Mondays are our busy day we can be seen out and about buzzing around in the ATV loaded up with our gear for the day’s jobs. We have taken advice from “the experts” and  can now look forward to the beach…

A great job being done, spraying kills the weeds and we get the tractor onto the job to cut them down,  a bit different from the days when the Bugage Holders “employed a youth to cut down the yellow tops” by hand.  And what a lovely backdrop to the day’s work.  Unfortunately the finishing off…

The Alnmouth WI have planted an oak tree on the common to celebrate their 100 year birthday, it is situated just behind the Denton Fountain at the bottom of Bracken Hill, with newly laid turf and garden seating it is a perfect rest stop for walkers, or indeed a  picnic spot great for watching the…
